Senior Project/Mechanical Design Engineer

Geismar North America, Inc. (Beaufort, SC) seeks to hire for the position of Senior Project/Mechanical Design Engineer.  The candidate must have a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or foreign equivalent degree and seven (7) months of heavy equipment product engineering and finite element analysis experience. Additionally, the candidate must have a demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing principles, processes, drafting standards, part creation, and Lean/Six Sigma and demonstrated ability using 3D CAD software for machine design of mobile equipment, mechanical systems, and electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.

 

The specific job responsibilities of the position include: (i) create project  documentation including models, drawings, schematics, assemblies, weldments,  charts, and component level documentation; (ii) review design specifications to establish customer requirements, interact with product management and the customer as required; (iii) create and verify engineering calculations; (iv) check and approve designs and drawings; (v) provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior Engineers, Drafters and internal customers; (vi) support system integration into the vehicle; (vii) offer innovative solutions to technically complex problems; (viii) create and maintain bill of materials; (ix) review and implement change requests; (x) capture and account for customer or field issues; (xi) offer innovative solutions for cost reductions, improved reliability, quality issues, safety issues, etc; (xii) drive Continuous Improvement and Standardization; (xiii) check and approve applicable sections of operations manuals, maintenance manuals and parts books; (xiv) provide manufacturing and commissioning Support; (xv) design for Manufacturing and Assembly and specify components; (xvi) meet deadlines to ensure projects are completed within acceptable time and cost targets; (xvii) provide periodic status updates on projects through reports, presentations and design reviews; and (xviii) perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned by management.
